Pear and russett apple on the nose with hints of citrus fruits such as star fruit. A juicy, fleshy pear and golden grape texture. The finish narrows to citrus and grapefruit flavors.

Brilliant ruby red; scents of ripe blackberry, clove, tobacco, and licorice; full-flavored palate, velvety, crisp, and refreshing. The wine is aged in oak and this process had imparted background tones of vanilla and toasted nut.

Rich, dark, concentrated expression of this noble variety. It has a dark ruby color with red highlights and a robust nose of blackberry confit, cassis, roasted meat and dark chocolate. It has a velvety attack and an extremely long, slightly tannic finish.

The nose opens to aromas of bright raspberry, red cherry and currant. Flavors of baking spices and red fruits.

Medium garnet color, perhaps belying what's to follow. Explosive aromas of crushed red cherry, forest floor and spice abound, followed by an ourtight party of ripe cranberry, strawberry, black plum and rhubarb pie on the palate.


900    King Estate Domaine, Oregon 2012 [$105] 

Made exclusively with organically grown grapes from estate vineyards. Notes of black cherry and pepper. Tannins, acid and oak build into an ample and lingering finish.


906    Louis Jadot, Gevry-Chambertin, AOC France 2011 [$99] 

Deep color with a multifaceted berry and red fruit bouquet, a full tannic structure and a mellow texture that carries into a lasting finish.


902    MacMurray Ranch, Russian River Valley, CA 2013 [$68] 

Aromas of lavender and boysenberry, giving way to flavors of dark cherry, pomegranate and vanilla. A silky mouthfeel, framed by subtle hints of oak from barrel aging.


907    Piazza, Del Dotto, Sonoma Coast, CA 2013 [$39] 

Earl Grey tea qualities to ripe black cherry and licorice as well as accents of wild mint and forest floor. This Pinot is silky smooth but maintains the rich and full mouthfeel of a serious Pinot Noir.

On the palate, bright bramble berries and ripe cherry with nutmeg dominate with a 2nd layering of caramel and hints of vanilla and smoke firm acid and moderate tannins.

Lots of rich, ripe blackberry, mocha, spice and oak flavors in this dry, robust blend.

This wine is hearty, thick and dense. It traffics in smoky char, leathery tannins and a strong taste of tobacco, finishing with a flash of red plum.


1001    Hahn, Central Coast, CA 2014 [$34] 

Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Enticing fragrances of violets and blueberry followed by notes of cardamom and cedar. Flavors of strawberry, red cherry and black pepper and cloves.


1004    La Capitelle, Baronne Philippine Rothschild, Lomoux, France 2012 [$49] 

Giving up lots of black currants, olive, smoked herbs and tobacco leaf, it's medium to full-bodied, has terrific purity and fine tannin on the finish.

Aromas of black cherry, leather, cassis, blueberry and coffee. Flavors of blackberry, pepper, and dried tobacco leaves. Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

The silky soft texture is a delight and flavors of blackberry, cherry cola, plum, dark chocolate and a leathery richness only enhance the experience.

Fat strawberry, with coffee and chocolate characters. Ripe fruit and soft tannins with a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes.

Notes of deep black fruit, a punch of spice and crushed black pepper on the nose. The rich, lush and well-structured wine is hearty with exotic fruit characteristics.


1102    Old Vine, MaCauley, Napa Valley, CA 2014 [$80] 

Well-weathered red fruit notes, a bouquet of dried strawberry. Not overly pushy, or brooding, it opens up with zippy and fresh flavors of briar, cola, and white pepper.


1103    Robert Craig, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, CA 2014 [$97] 

Black sears vineyard results in flavors of deep blackberry, white pepper and a refreshing minerality at the forefront.



After Dinner

Moscata D'Asti, Michele Chiarlo "Nivole" DOCG, Piemonte 375ML 2013 [$22] 

Exuberant aromas of tropical fruit and honeysuckle blossoms mark this fresh, lightly sparkling wine and carry into a palate of ripe melon and mango flavors finishing on a delicate sweet note underscored by bright acidity.




Fonseca Bin 27, Porto    Glass [$8] 

This sweet wine from Fonseca's own quintas in the Cima Corgo shows fresh, rich blackberry and cassis aromas. On the palate, it has a well-knit structure, with a velvety, luscious mouthfeel and smooth tannins.


Fonseca 20 year Tawny, Porto    Glass [$20] 

This is a mature wine of deep amber color. Complex bouquet's of ripe, plummy fruit, warm cinnamon and butterscotch noted and subtle oak nuances are confirmed on the palate, which is sweet and voluminous.


Taylor Fladgate 10 year Tawny, Porto    Glass [$12] 

With an intense amber tawny color, the wine has sweet, elegant apricot flavors, delicate wood noted and rich, seductive aromas of mature fruit. Full-bodied and highly concentrated.
